  • Develop effective coping mechanisms to control your physical and mental response and become less reactive.

  • Control and reduce the ‘fight and flight’ (the sympathetic nervous system) response to stress and switch to the body’s rest and repair mode (parasympathetic nervous system) through evidence-based relaxation techniques.

There are many different anxiety disorders, some of the most prevalent in society today are Social Anxiety and Generalised Anxiety Disorder which affects 5% of people in the UK. Phobias are also a form of anxiety and you can find out more about these here.  Hypnotherapy and CBT is effective at addressing these along with the general effects of stress.

How to overcome Stress and Anxiety

Stress is a natural response and part of our inbuilt survival mechanism, this drives us to take the action we need for success. Stress however becomes problematic when it is experienced over long periods of time. This then becomes chronic, taking a detrimental toll on our health and overall quality of life.

Stress and anxiety is often used interchangeably but they are different and it’s important to distinguish between them to get the best possible results.

First though it helps to understand what the stress response is. This is when the demands being placed upon us are in conflict with our ability to cope.  So when demands exceed our capabilities (real or perceived) this is when we feel stressed or anxious.

The difference between stress and anxiety is that stress is caused by external factors, once these go away, the stress does too.  Anxiety, however, continues even after the cause of stress goes away.

The good news is that we have much more control over our mental and physiological responses to stress then we realise. Through the power of the mind and using key relaxation techniques you’ll be better able to control your stress response rather than it controlling you.

Stress and Anxiety Management

Hypnotherapy with CBT is an effective way of dealing with stress and anxiety. The process of hypnosis itself is incredibly therapeutic, resulting in increased levels of relaxation in both the mind and body, making it a perfect antidote for today’s stressful world.

Hypnosis centres on changing the unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours that contribute to stress and anxiety, allowing the individual to feel more in control and able to cope.  During a session, anchors are established to enable the feeling of relaxation and calm felt under hypnosis to be replicated in stressful situations.   This creates an automatic response by resetting how we react to stressful and anxiety provoking situations. This allows us to exert control over our minds and bodies also resulting in improved sleep, concentration and performance in our lives. CBT is also incorporated into the session to further address the negative thinking patterns which contribute to feelings of stress and anxiety. You’ll be surprised at how effective the techniques are and how they become more and more powerful as you practice them.
